Position: Full-time tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Virtual/Augmented Reality in the Department of Art, College of Communication & Creative Arts, Rowan University. Description: The Department of Art welcomes applications for a full-time (10-month) tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with commensurate experience to join the department September 1, 2020. The Department of Art, with NASAD-accredited BFA and BA offerings, is seeking a visionary and engaged faculty to shape innovative educational and entrepreneurial opportunities in art and design with virtual/augmented reality. Candidates will be experienced in cross-media approaches exploring digital innovation within the scope of virtual/augmented reality but may have additional experience in moving images; video and animation; augmented reality and interactive screen surfaces; and design for learning; visual, sonic and interactive spatial installations; or design for intelligent environments. The department seeks an energetic candidate who makes conceptual connections in the visual, social, and cultural environment. The successful candidate imagines new thinking about collaboration, interdisciplinary study to expand curricula, alternative course structures, experiential internships, and unique programming that integrates creation, exhibition, criticism and analysis. This individual is expected to develop crossover relationships throughout the university. The hired faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate in research and education with the VR Center at Rowan University. The applicant must have an active record of creative/research activity in the visual arts and a well-articulated creative/research agenda. Applicants with experience in curriculum planning, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and a willingness to pursue grants/awards are preferred. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to or record of working with diverse students and faculty. The candidate will be asked to contribute to the department and university through service including curriculum and program development, recruitment, and arts outreach on campus and with the wider community. The Department of Art is one of six departments in the College of Communication & Creative Arts that includes Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations & Advertising, Radio, Television & Film, and Writing Arts. CCCA’s goal is to empower people to be storytellers, artists, critical thinkers, and engaged citizens. The college serves nearly 1900 majors through ten B.A.s, two B.F.A.s, and two M.A.s. The college is seeing unprecedented growth, having hired 40% of its full-time faculty over the past two years as well as nearly doubling the number of entering freshmen. Additionally, we house first-year writing and public speaking, which serve all Rowan students. Requirements: The successful candidate will possess an M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Art or a related field with significant creative activity and/or publications.
