Requirements University Counsel - Office of General Counsel The Office of General Counsel is responsible for the provision of legal to the University and its officers, directors, administrators, faculty, and staff. The office provides legal advice and counsel on the broad spectrum of legal issues that arise in the operation of the University. Reporting directly to the Vice President and General Counsel, this University Counsel position is responsible for providing legal advice, counseling, and training on matters related to the University's research and other sponsored activities and the University's academic medical mission, including its relationship with its health system partner. The University Counsel serves on the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences' leadership team. The University Counsel supports the academic research leaders and research administrative and compliance offices throughout the University. The position advises on all aspects of the University's relationship with its health system partner, including contractual issues and matters related to education, physician/chair appointments, joint fundraising, trademarks and operations. The position is responsible for advising on research-related compliance matters, including conflict of interest, research integrity, human subjects research, export controls and sanctions, HIPAA and other privacy and security laws, and OMB Uniform Guidance. The position also reviews and advises on research-related contracts, including sponsored research agreements, federal contracts, sub awards, clinical trial agreements, data use agreements, and licensing agreements. Working with other attorneys in the office, the University Counsel advises on conducting research and other sponsored activities in international locations. Qualifications
