This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Parking Services Representative position for Transportation Services at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position is in the Transportation Services department within the Division of Finance and Administration at Oregon State University (OSU). Transportation Services supports the University's mission by providing faculty, staff, students, and visitors with safe, sustainable, customer-focused, and fiscally sound transportation programs and services. The Transportation Services department includes staff who specialize in parking, motor pool, and transportation options.
The purpose of the Parking Field Representative (PFR) position is to provide customer service to the community that uses parking facilities operated by OSU Transportation Services. The primary function of the PFR is to patrol OSU parking lots and enforce University Standards regulating parking on campus.
PFRs often make the initial contact with university community members, and their demeanor could influence an individual's entire experience at OSU. PFRs project a presence that is professional and friendly. The PFR should be confident in their knowledge of the physical campus, and of the University Standards, policies and procedures that govern parking on campus. A PFR should also possess the knowledge and communication skills to competently assist any University customers that they encounter. The duties of this position may include general encounters with the public, issuing parking citations, motorist assists, and special event support. PFRs are also responsible for gathering various types of field data. During patrols the PFR should be observant of safety issues, parking violations and parking maintenance needs. PFRs will complete a daily field activities log. PFRs may also be dispatched to assist with parking complaints, motorist assists, traffic control, or other situations. As part of the patrol duties a PFR may need to impound a vehicle by using an immobilization device. PFRs should have the physical ability to maneuver and install the immobilization devices if necessary.
High school diploma or equivalent; One year of relevant customer service experience, with an emphasis on working with the public;
Demonstrated ability to: –Represent Transportation Services in a positive manner; –Interpret, understand, and clearly explain laws, rules, and regulations to campus visitors, students, staff, and faculty; –Assess situations and make logical decisions; –Basic computer and smart phone skills
The ability to jump start a vehicle or inflate a tire; The ability to perform the physical duties of the position as described in the position description.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
PFRs commonly work alone and with limited supervision. The hours for this position are variable. Work schedule may also include shift adjustments, holidays, or weekends as needed. The PFR must also be willing to work rotating shifts and overtime when necessary. PFRs will work outdoors in all types of weather, climb stairs and be on their feet for long periods. They will also work by themselves in remote parking lots or in isolated parts of the campus. This position may also require long periods of sitting and/or standing and will include repeatedly climbing in and out a patrol vehicle. A PFR may need move up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, or crawl to obtain vehicle information or install a boot. In the course of a day a PFR will deal with all types of customers and situations and will do so with confidence and decorum.
