Essential Duties/Responsibilities: - Meet with individual students and their families (as alphabetically assigned) throughout the college search to address their questions and provide guidance that meets their specific goals for post-secondary education.
- Meet with college representatives (both on campus and through professional development opportunities) to broaden understanding and promote the school and its students.
- Develop and oversee programming so the campus community can be informed on all aspects of the college search and selection process. Sample programs include: college fairs, grade specific sessions, application workshops, financial aid nights, athletics and arts information sessions and case studies.
- Coordinate with the Grade Level Deans to guide all Upper School students with regard to their academic and extracurricular plans.
- Write recommendations for students for college and scholarships and oversee the school information that is shared with colleges and other post-secondary programs.
- Design the annual school profile that accompanies college applications
- Keep faculty and staff informed of the college process.
- Oversee standardized testing programs related to the college search.
- Keep abreast of trends and changes in the field.
- Provide annual evaluations for all direct reports in accordance with Francis Parker School’s Evaluation program.
- Working with Upper School Division Head and other key stakeholders, recommend and develop programs in support of Francis Parker School’s college preparation objectives.
- Hire and retain staff to secure the quality of the department and to meet Francis Parker School’s objectives for student graduation and educational future.
Qualifications: - Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
- Extensive experience in the field of college counseling and college admission
- Interpersonal skills for working effectively with teenagers, parents, faculty, staff and administrators
- Experience as Director or Dean of Counseling in independent school or University setting.
- Understanding and experience in developing and evaluating a team of high performing professional staff.
- Ability to work as part of an office team
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to meet the time commitments related to the demands of the job that occur outside the regular school hours
- Ability to keep informed of the field through various professional development opportunities
