In partnership with the NYU IT Data Government Support Office, this position leads all organization-wide data governance activities and will have responsibility for managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets. This individual will have the opportunity to establish the policies, standards, rules, processes and technologies within an ownership / accountability framework to effectively manage NYU data. The Data Governance director serves as a point of escalation for governance and data protection issues and will work closely with business and functional area leadership to improve the quality and value of core structured and unstructured data assets, respond to regulatory protection requirements as well as support the strategic requirements of the department. Provide leadership for the external reporting and survey research functions of the University's Office of Institutional Research. Coordinate with the Institutional Research analysts to respond to ad hoc data needs; survey design; and conducting research on areas of institutional priority. Oversee sharing the work of the Institutional Research Office with the wider community in both written and oral formats, making presentations as appropriate.
Required Education: Master's Degree
Preferred Education: Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Master's in Data Management/information technology/ Higher Education Research
Required Experience: 7+ years experience in data governance, data management or related experience
Preferred Experience: Related experience in Data Governance/ Higher Education Administration.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Proficiency with desktop office suite and ad hoc data management tools. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to present complex information to senior administrators in a non-technical manner. Staff Management.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Experience with Data Management applications (i.e. Collibra, Analytix DS, or similar applications). Experinece with external reporting at the college level (IPEDS, NYSED, U.S.News and similar reporting) and visualization tools (Tableau)
