The Department of Statistics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison,invites applications for an open rank positionstarting in August 2020. We seek exceptional candidates with a PhD in Statistics or related field, with backgrounds and interests in all areas of Statistics,with preference for those whose research and teaching experience is in statistical aspects of data science foundation.The incumbent will conduct research and teaching at all levels and provide service at the professional and university level. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain extramural funding.The Department of Statistics is deeply committed to diversity. The Department has 22 regular faculty members and more than 180 graduate students. Many faculty members have joint appointments in other departments. The Department is well known for its focus on the interplay between statistical theory, methodology, and practice. It offers a stimulating research environment as well as opportunities for collaborative research in other departments.
The Department has an extensive computing facility, including a LINUX-based network. The facilities support the use of several scientific programming languages and a number of popular statistical and numerical analysis packages. The department is served by several computer specialists and works closely with computing units in the Department of Computer Science and across campus.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison ranks among the top universities in the country in research expenditures and provides excellent support for faculty seeking external funding. Internal research support is available from funds provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. Madison is a pleasant medium-sized city (about 250,000 population) located in the lake region of southern Wisconsin. It is the state capital with a large base for educational research and government activities as well as university-industry interaction. The university and community offer outstanding intellectual, cultural and recreational activities. Madison's quality of life always ranks very high among cities of comparable size as a place to work and live.
