POSITION SUMMARY: This critical communications position focuses on the strategy, consultation, design, and execution for visual content creation across digital and print communications channels for the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS).
A strategic communications foundation is core to building, shaping and protecting organization reputation across CFANS and the University of Minnesota. This key position will ensure visual content reaches critical internal and external stakeholder audiences - staff, faculty, students, prospective students, alumni, government, donors and industry groups, etc. - to advance organizational mission, vision, goals and priority areas.
Rooted in strategy, this key position will help modernize the CFANS communications discipline through compelling multimedia design that reaches and motivates key audiences. Further, this key position will help capture and communicate the meaningful work, societal impact and purpose-driven nature of CFANS.
GRAPHIC/MULTIMEDIA DESIGN Serve as primary designer for CFANS. Responsible for developing design strategy, brand/identity standards (aligned with University of Minnesota standards), and visual content for digital and print assets, as part of advancing broader communications strategy. Use design to translate the mission, vision and goals of the college. Create visual content across all channels including website, digital, email (templates and campaigns), social, print collateral and presentations that remains consistent with University of Minnesota brand standards. Ensure design is integrated across online and print channels in a compelling manner and meets usability and accessibility standards. Serve as design consultant to CFANS departments , centers and key college advancement partners such as Alumni Relations and Development. Provide execution support, as needed. Share best practices and experience across CFANS. Drive new digital and print design ideas and concepts to inject new creativity and innovation into channels (e.g., Test and improve the design of the website) Create design measurement metrics to evaluate effectiveness and serve as basis for continuous improvement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor ' s degree in digital design, graphic design, graphic communications or related field Proven track record of demonstrating strategic and consultative mindset and approach to communications. Minimum 2 years successful professional design experience. Strong portfolio of design work demonstrating how design advances strategy. Strong understanding of content management systems and search engine optimizations principles. Proficient with Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Adobe Creative Suite-including Photoshop, Illustrator, lnDesign. Proficient in MS and Google suites. Creative and open to new ideas. Adaptable and willing to learn and apply new techniques. Strong work ethic and personal accountability, attention to detail, and time management. Excellent interpersonal /communication skills and experience as a collaborator and team player. Experience designing suite of digital and print materials that include web pages, brochures, logos, signs, infographics, advertisements , and other communication materials.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in web design/development with a proficiency in front-end development web programming languages such as HTML and CSS. Familiarity with the University of Minnesota and its programs. Familiarity with the breadth and depth of CFANS and related organizations. Experience working in a collegiate environment. Experience with using design to advance science storytelling. |
