Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Second Lieutenant which will report to the Campus Safety Administrator. The Second Lieutenant provides administrative and operational support to the Security Unit within the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD), Newark Division, duties will include but are not limited to: -Oversees administrative functions such as verifying employee time records; preparing weekly reports on all operational and administrative matters for the Campus Safety Administrator; providing on the job training to subordinate employees and addressing performance issues as needed. -Acts as liaison between RUPD duty supervisor and the security division to ensure proper support and operational continuity between day and night operations. -Provides supervision, support, and assigns schedules to subordinates. -Reviews all daily reports and highlights any concerns to address with the Campus Safety Administrator to collaboratively ensure that all operational needs are met. -Verifies that all personnel perform their duties effectively and accurately. -Demonstrate relevant proficiency in the knowledge of the premises. -Promotes a professional environment demonstrating a consistent, positive customer service approach in all situations including professional demeanor, wearing required uniform and/or personal attire and obeying regulations to complement and enhance the public safety's department effectiveness. -Ensures required reports as submitted by security officers are accurate and timely.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a mandatory two years of security or military related service. Must have a valid driver's license and will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving course.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Knowledge of the Rutgers Newark campus and certification in basic first aid, CPR, use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED). - CUPSA training. - Previous supervisory experience.
- Word / Excel / T-2 Flex System / Handheld Devices.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- This position will require the incumbent to work occasional evenings and/or overtime. – Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. - Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
