The Comparative Medicine Branch (CMB) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Research Triangle Park, North Carolina is recruiting a Staff Scientist for the Veterinary Medicine Section under the leadership of Dr. Terry Blankenship-Paris, Head. The VMS is a service core combining research, training and regulatory compliance with all animal research regulations. The Staff Scientist, working under the direction of the Head, VMS will have responsibilities for (but not limited to)
A Staff Scientist is a NIH employee generally appointed to a time-limited, renewable position to support the long-term research of a Principal Investigator. Staff Scientists do not receive independent resources, although they often work independently and have sophisticated skills and knowledge essential to the work of the laboratory. Staff Scientists should be capable of independent work. The Staff Scientist in this position will conduct small research studies on animal use refinement and other laboratory trainees, including laboratory animal residents and technicians.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a DVM degree, boarded by or board eligible with the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, 3+ years’ experience with rodent animal models including environmental toxicity exposure studies, evidence of successfully working both independently and as a member of a team, and excellent oral and written communication skills. At least one-year experience in animal care and use committee proceedings, post approval study monitoring, and training of investigators is essential. Salary/benefits: This is a federal full-time equivalent position, and a comprehensive benefits package is available. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
