General Statement of Duties: The Accountant I inputs data relative to time and attendance, performs arithmetic computations, prepares and reviews reports, summarizes data, and maintains all relative attendance records for regular state (AA) employees. Travel may be required for job-related purposes/training.
Responsibilities: (E) = Essential
1. (E) Collects and reviews weekly timesheets for completeness and accuracy according to standard procedures and collective bargaining agreements. 2. (E) Prepares and enters time and attendance into HRCMS. 3. (E) Reviews online timesheets and verifies accuracy by running reports and analyzing data from HRCMS, DocDirect and CIW queries. 4. (E) Confers with agency personnel by telephone, in writing or in person to resolve time and attendance discrepancies and/or to obtain statistical data and documentation for reports and projects. 5. (E) Performs arithmetic computations, manually and using calculating machines or computerized programs. 6. (E) Provides technical assistance to employees and state agencies to ensure compliance with state, agency and collective bargaining agreement rules and regulations. 7. (E) Maintains all time and attendance records and service data, both written and electronic, for regular state (AA) employees. 8. (E) Performs related duties such as responding to inquiries regarding assigned agency functions, attending staff meetings and training sessions, providing reports to internal departments and outside agencies, and conferring with others concerning attendance-related matters. 9. May assume related duties of other staff members when required. 10. (E) Serves as an essential employee. 11. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. 12. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. 13. 1. Ability to maintain accurate records. 2. Knowledge of basic arithmetic and formulas. 3. Knowledge of the methods of general report writing. 4. Ability to gather information by examining records and documents and through questioning individuals. 5. Ability to read and interpret documents such as reports; to analyze data, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. 6. Ability to prepare general reports as required. 7. Ability to understand, explain and apply the laws, rules, policies and procedures governing assigned unit activities. 8. Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise discretion in handling confidential information. 9. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to give oral and written instructions in an understandable manner. 10. Ability to exercise sound judgment. 11. Ability to work overtime, as assigned and required.
1. Two years of full-time experience in time collection and/or payroll processing (using HRCMS preferred). 2. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access). 3. Experience working with collective bargaining agreements. 4. Experience working with confidential records.
