UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. UW-IT has an outstanding full time opportunity for an experienced Java developer. UW-IT is seeking a Java developer to join our Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. This position will help us deliver IAM services that meet the needs of our community today, while promoting confidence, choice, and innovation in meeting the needs of tomorrow. Current faculty, staff, students, and researchers need safe, reliable, day-to-day access to resources and infrastructure around the world, while future scholars may benefit from digital identities that they bring and control themselves, with verifiable credentials about their academic activities and achievements at the UW. Our developers are critical contributors to both endeavors, and they can take pride in sustaining the open development of the Internet for research and education. RESPONSIBILITIES This position is responsible for the design, development, integration, operations, and maintenance of custom-built, open source, and commercial software. This position collaborates with other developers and technical leads to continually improve our development and operational practices in order to ensure agility, reliability, performance, and recoverability of our services. Consulting with customers and partners, and participating in higher education and IAM industry activities, are also part of the job. Our developers collaborate with team members and stakeholders to align our service strategies, designs, and operations with broader University goals. Customer satisfaction is our shared responsibility, and we strive for it every day, together. DAY IN THE LIFE Our developers enjoy a variety of daily activities that have an impact on teammates and customers. On a typical day you might: REQUIREMENTS Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Work in an open office environment. This position involves responsibilities and occasional situations where work outside of standard business hours is required to respond to incidents or to meet critical deadlines.
