The Office of Accountability and Compliance, Human Research Protections Program (HRPO) , has an opportunity for an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Manager . The IRB Manager oversees the day to day operations of the UMB IRB and ensures compliance of all human research with related laws and regulations. Manages the review process for all related human research requests.

Provide direction for the Human Research Protection review process, to include establishing goals, target groups, and desired outcomes. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
Examine and evaluate program effectiveness, and make changes as necessary in collaboration with Director
Provide regulatory expertise/guidance for all aspects of IRB review.
Organize and/or participate in various IRB committees and teams to consult with program heads and administrative officials on policy and program needs and issues.
Interact with various federal agencies regarding the compliance of the program.
Provide support to IRB Coordinators, IRB Administrators, and IRB Analysts in the approval process.
Ensure IRB files are up to date and accurate.
Manage investigative support, ensuring staff communication is accurate and timely.
Assist in the development of standards and preparations for IRB Committee reviews.
Provide regulatory expertise/guidance for all aspects of IRB review. Stays current with changes in policies.
Supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates professional staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned, including leading UMB ESCRO Committee
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field; Master's degree is preferred.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience working in research setting including use of human subjects with at least two (2) years of experience with overall responsibility of day to day operations.
Supervisory: Two (2) years of management experience.
Licensure/Certification: Certified IRB professional (either current or within 6 months of hire)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing human subjects research.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Skill in exercising initiative, discretion and tact, resourcefulness, and sound judgment with an ability to solve problems and make decisions.
Skill in writing detailed, clear, precise, and grammatically correct technical letters, memos and reports.
Skill in relevant PC applications.
Skill in communicating efficiently and effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of people internal and external to the organization
