Essential Functions:
POSITION SUMMARY: Position is responsible for providing clinical office support, which includes greeting and registering patients, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance benefits and referrals, and collecting co-payments. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Greets patients, assists with form completion; verifies accuracy of patient’s insurance and demographic information; provides HIPAA forms, arbitration forms, and consent-to-treat forms.
- Collects co-pays for services; verifies and balances receipts and payments.
- Reviews schedule for new patients, updating when necessary.
- Calls patients with appointment time reminder, obtaining insurance information and referral forms.
- Prepares, distributes, and collects fee tickets; reviews fee tickets for completeness; reconciles fee tickets with daily schedule.
- Schedules return patient appointments and patient testing; validates patient’s parking.
- May prepare patients’ charts for daily appointments. If order entry in the electronic medical record is part of the job function, completes requisitions/orders per Washington University guidelines.
- Assists patients with insurance questions regarding billing process.
- Assists staff with sending out reminder cards and other related scheduling duties.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma.
- Two years of experience in a medical office setting.
- Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of two years of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include:
- Medical assistant certification/registration eligible with successful completion of certification exam within six months of hire date (or within a shorter time frame if noted by the hiring manager).
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
- Ability to show proof of medical assistant registration/certification or complete the medical assistant registration/certification within six months of hire date (or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager).
- Basic Life Support certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
- Working knowledge of insurance, medical terminology, and computer skills.
Salary Range:
The hiring range for this position is $15.85 - $19.43 per hour.
