SelectHealth is a nonprofit health insurance plan serving members in Utah and Idaho. The pharmacy benefit is one of the most visible services that SelectHealth offers, providing valuable initiatives to SelectHealth members and the community. The Pharmacy Services department manages the health plan’s pharmacy affairs and works closely with physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, and clinics to make drug policy decisions. SelectHealth maintains an organized, directed, postgraduate training program in managed care pharmacy practice offering rotations in six different areas of managed care practice, including: Pharmacy Operations; Clinical and Formulary Management; Contracting and Industry Relations; Specialty/Injectable Drug Benefit Administration; Employer/Plan Sponsors Relationships and Benefit Design; and Government Programs. Upon completion of the program the resident will be accountable for learning how to manage the drug distribution process; design and implement effective clinical programs; ensure the safety and quality of the medication-use system; provide medication and practice-related education and training; design effective benefit structures; and conduct outcomes-based research Responsibilities of the resident include the following: Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee formulary presentations, national meeting presentations, clinical research projects, physician counter detailing, clinical guideline development, prior authorization reviews, assisting care management nurses with patient reviews, pharmacy expense forecasting, and clinical rotations. SelectHealth takes two (2) PGY1 Managed Care residents per year. |
