FMC, Research & Development is looking for a motivated Research Agronomist who wants to work at a dynamic research-focused Field Station in Sparks, GA, reporting directly to the Field Station Manager. The agronomist will work closely with research scientists as a team conducting field research trials and supporting the planning and implementation of all aspects of the field research program. This position requires acute attention to safety details, to research protocols and the understanding of those protocols to make decisions for a diverse set of crops (~12-15 crops). In addition, the successful candidate must safely maintain and operate farm and research equipment.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Continuous compliance with company safety policies and procedures. Actively participate in all safety training and safety meetings as well as provide suggestions for improvements and anticipate possible issues.
Excellent stewardship of company resources at all levels, both financial and material.
Assist in pre-season planning of crop rotation, soil sampling of fields and development of nutrient recommendations.
Assist in land preparation before planting.
Schedule application of fertilizer, lime, etc.
Work closely with research scientists to plan research trials, which includes ordering seed and pesticides necessary to conduct and maintain trials; developing preseason checklist of needed resources and maintain inventory.
Support regular scouting and manage field research trials including application of maintenance sprays and fertilizer, cultivation and harvest. Maintain records of all agronomic activities associated with each field research trial.
Identify and resolve issues related to the above and anticipate potential issues, collaborating with others, as needed, to resolve.
Manage four lateral move irrigation systems and train station personnel on use of the system. Work daily with scientists to ensure required watering regimen.
Perform routine maintenance on all farm and research equipment. Schedule vendor preformed maintenance as required. Maintain tools and farm shop in a safe and efficient manner.
M.S., Agronomy or closely related field
At least 3 years’ experience in planting and application of maintenance sprays and fertilizer, cultivation and harvest
Proficiency with computer systems
Experience in safely maintaining and operating all farm and research equipment including tractors, planters, sprayers, harvesters, and irrigation equipment
Strong attention to detail
Experience in delivering results that meet or exceed timelines and quality standards
Strong interpersonal skills to be able to foster collaborative work environment
Experience in continuously learning and developing
Self-directed and can function as a valued team member, recognizing the impact
Adaptability to changing situations and able to perform multiple tasks with multiple priorities
Exceptional communicator with the ability to teach and demonstrate processes to colleagues on the station
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Experience in maintaining appropriate records
Committed to the ethical principles and professional standards that ensure the integrity of data
Georgia Pesticide License
Herbicide knowledge and experience in conducting weed control field research is a plus
