Under the general direction of the Support Services Captain, the Emergency Operations Coordinator performs professional and administrative work in the planning, development, coordination, implementation and execution of a comprehensive emergency preparedness program.
The duties assigned to this position include planning, implementing, and coordinating the City's emergency operations plans and functions, ensuring that all state and federal disaster regulations and procedures are followed; preparing and monitoring emergency training programs; coordinating efforts with City departments and other agencies, maintaining appropriate records and performing other related duties as required.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in public administration, emergency services or a related field, or formal training in the areas of disaster mitigation, response and recovery. A Master's Degree in Emergency Management or a related field is highly desired.
License/Certificate Requirements: Due to the performance of some field duties, which may require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
Certification as an Emergency Manager by the International Association of Emergency Managers is desirable. Completion of all ICS courses up to ICS 700 & 800 is desirable.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of experience in emergency management or a related field is required.
Knowledge of:Principles of emergency response and disaster planning and recovery, including planning, policies, procedures, practices and training; general knowledge of emergency services agencies, and of the function and organization of an emergency operations center and emergency communication procedures; municipal government operations; local, state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to emergency management; budgetary and financial processes and controls; research methods; project/program management, and all relevant Microsoft program applications including, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
