MSA is seeking a Certified Safety Professional to establish and promote the maintenance of a safe, accident-free work environment at the U.S. Government Accountability Office. The Safety Professional will provide safety leadership, ensure facility compliance with OSHA and corporate safety directives, implement and maintain a safety management system including understanding risks and opportunities, improve safety performance, and ensure facility safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations.

Self-motivated that can complete work assignments following through MSA’s and MSA’s clients’ directives. This role requires a moderate amount of travel.

Responsibilities

• Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practice.
• Facilitate a work environment that supports a safe and healthy culture.
• Conduct or coordinate safety-related worker training in areas such as hazard identification, hot work requirements, safety laws and regulations, the use of safety equipment, and other OSHA required training.
• Plan and coordinate safety audits and facility inspections to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Investigate industrial accidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes and install preventive measures.
• Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary safety-related changes.
• Work with managers, employees, bargaining unit representatives to ensure a compliant safety program with continuous improvement.
• Develop, update, and recommend GAO safety programs, policies, and/or procedural changes to enhance organizational effectiveness or ensure legal compliance. This includes monitoring industry developments, trends, and legislation relating to safety.
• Ensure that OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met.
• Analyze and interpret safety, injury, and accident data for monthly reports to management and GAO partners with an emphasis on leading safety indicators to identify trends in safety performance.
• Represent MSA with regulatory agencies, corporate, and government customers regarding safety matters.
• Manage and maintain the safety department.
• Develop, train and mentor department staff.
