The Director is a senior member of a Planned Giving team of nine responsible for achieving annual revenue targets of $12M+ in new and realized commitments each year. The Director with work with the Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving to set annual goals, objectives, operating plan, and budget. The majority of the Director’s time will be spent managing a portfolio of 250+ Planned Giving prospects assigned to Western MA, CT, and New York territories. The Director is expected to complete 125 donor visits per year and oversee the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for assigned prospect pool with a goal of recruiting 26+ individuals into the Dana-Farber Society, the Institute’s legacy society. The Director is also responsible for closing $2M in realized commitments and $4M in planned gift intentions annually. The Director also manages the Associate Director responsible for estate administration and stewardship for the Dana-Farber Society, which has 1300 members.
Partner with Planned Giving team to achieve annual revenue targets of $12M+ in new and realized commitments each year.
Work with Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving to set annual goals, objectives, operating plan, and budget.
Solicit and respond to inquiries from donors and colleagues regarding life income gifts, bequests, trusts, IRA gifts, real-estate and gifts of non-cash assets. Close over $250,000 in life income gifts (market value) on an annual basis.
Recruit 26+ Dana-Farber Society members each year.
Send a minimum of 15 bequest proposals, 20 life income proposals, and 50 IRA proposals each year.
Assist the Associate Director with complicated estate settlement issues; act as a resource and liaison with Dana-Farber’s General Counsel where rights are in question.
Manage highly confidential financial disclosures and ensure discretion for all Planned Giving prospects and donors.
Assist the Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving and the other Director of Planned Giving to drive the agenda for Prospect Meetings to ensure monthly and quarterly revenue and activity goals are met.
Work with key constituencies to generate more revenue and Planned Giving leads from Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk participants, Trustees, Friends of Dana-Farber, volunteers, faculty & staff, Jimmy Fund Councils and patient families.
Serve as a strategic resource for other frontline fundraisers in the Division of Philanthropy. Collaborate with Annual Giving, Jimmy Fund, and Principal & Major Gifts colleagues to identify planned giving prospects, provide technical expertise, trainings on planned giving vehicles, talking points and proposals to generate more legacy giving.
Qualify inquiries from marketing, referrals from colleagues, daily report of recent donors, and others assigned as Planned Giving prospects.
Help steward and cultivate Dana-Farber Society donors, as well as donors having established endowed funds.
Assist colleagues with financial/estate Planning seminars internally and externally.
Manage Associate Director and Assistant; assist with education and mentorship of entire team.
Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Planned Giving. Supervises one Associate Director and one Assistant.
Assist the entire Division with reaching financial goals.
Bachelor’s degree 8-10 years of experience in Philanthropy; Planned Giving experience a must, legal and financial experience preferred.
The ability to generate gifts in the range of $5,000 to $1,000,000+ and knowledge of the planned giving vehicles, IRS regulations, estate planning and investment strategies.
Demonstrated success in donor relations; strong organizational skills and detail management; excellent oral presentation and written communication skills; and the ability to work with a variety of constituencies and Institute staff.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Ability to work closely with legal professionals and with complicated instruments.
