The College of Science & Mathematics at Rowan University invites applicants for the position of Department Head of Biological Sciences and the newly formed Molecular & Cellular Biosciences Department. The successful candidate should have demonstrable experience in managing academic programs, working with faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry, other administration officials, and government and funding agencies.
The Biological Sciences Department has a well-established BA/BS undergraduate education program and is seeking to build a dynamic graduate research program. The Molecular & Cellular Biosciences Department is a research and teaching focused program with emphasis on training scientists and students interested in health professions. The College of Science & Mathematics is searching for a Department Head who will lead the Biological Sciences Department in achieving the growth of the department’s research activity and external funding awards while maintaining and enhancing the ongoing core mission of delivering first-class undergraduate education. The successful candidate will lead efforts in developing new graduate-level degrees, curriculum, and training for both departments which address the workforce needs of New Jersey.

Candidates should have a doctoral degree in biological sciences or a closely related field. The successful candidate should also possess an outstanding and demonstrable record of leadership, undergraduate and graduate teaching, student mentoring and advising, and a sustained and successful externally funded research program to warrant an appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure in the department. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are also required. In addition, a strong commitment to supporting and promoting a diverse and inclusive working and learning environment is expected.
The starting date is July 1, 2020 and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
