Chemistry is the intellectual home to over 250 students, post-docs, and faculty members working in a wide range of specializations, as well as the interdisciplinary fields of chemical biology, structural biology, molecular toxicology, materials chemistry, and nanotechnology. Close collaboration with the School of Medicine, School of Engineering and other departments within the College of Arts and Science-particularly the departments of biological sciences and physics--provides valuable opportunities to not only excel in the traditional disciplines of chemistry but also investigate the many ways that chemistry intersects with other fields.

Responsible for budget development, administration of personnel functions, general guidance and assistance for staff, often performing in a liaison capacity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Unit Management
Assists Administrative Officer by participating in planning and budget preparations and communicating budget calendar and process
Approves all financial transactions for the Department of Chemistry in the SkyVU systems, including procurement requisitions, travel and entertainment expense reports, procurement card expense reports, intercompany transactions, etc.
Uses professional judgment and integrity to evaluate the appropriateness of expenditures and addresses questionable transactions
Reviews payroll for costing accuracy
Engages in ongoing training to maintain an extensive understanding of SkyVU's financial systems, the institution's chart of accounts, POET, COA and PPM
Maintains extensive understanding of institutional and departmental travel, expense and procurement card policies
Sponsor-specific support for compliance checking
Sub-award and sub-contract monitoring to ensure compliance of government regulatory guidelines
Audits Oracle records and assists with correcting any project budgets and end dates
Oversees financial processes of sponsored award closeouts to assist grants team in ensuring accuracy and compliance of award terms and conditions
Maintains extensive understanding of sponsored projects accounting and expenditure regulations
Maintains accuracy of accounting records through regular analysis
Frequently prepares ad hoc financial and budget reports and completes and maintains timely accounting reviews
Accumulates, analyzes and summarizes routine, detailed data in order to prepare statistical and financial reports
Prepares journal entries and cost transfer memos for adjustments and corrections
Management of chemistry facilities
Assists with construction planning, renovations and teaching lab maintenance
Participates in Chemistry safety committee
Manages chemistry chemical database development/oversight
Manages capital equipment inventory, assist asset management
Manages space survey for the Chemistry department
Administrative and support functions within the Chemistry department
Assists in financial aspects of preparation of academic year teaching schedule with DGS/DUS
Assists with Academic Calendar development regarding the budgetary constraints
Provides financial support for Chemistry Recharge Centers
Prepares/Assists with ACS annual and 5-year reports, NSF annual report, CCR annual report, tax reports, annual space report and grant application/renewal archival data for training grants
Supervises team of AAI, AAII and teaching lab assistants
Trains departmental staff in the use of SkyVU financial systems and the appropriate use of the chart of accounts, POET and COA.
Answers general department financial inquiries
Serves as project leader for special/unforeseen financial tasks
Other duties as assigned
Profile of an Ideal Candidate:
Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience or the equivalent is required.
