This is a full-time position under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Student Life. The Coordinator is responsible for initiating, coordinating, executing, evaluating and directing a full array of programs, services, and activities that engage all segments of the student body.
Recruit, train, and manage the Campus Activities Board; work directly with the Board to establish a complete student activities program that enhances the student experience on campus.
Serve as advisor to the Student Government Association which includes managing their use of university funds and resources and ensuring their role as the voice of the student body and their adherence to the mission and vision of the university.
Responsible for planning and executing both the Student Government Association, Clubs and Organizations, and Advisor retreats for the fall and spring semesters.
Responsible for the planning and implementing Welcome Back Week events and Club Day in conjunction with the Campus Activities Board and Residence Life.
In collaboration with Residence Life, develop consistent weekend programming targeting resident students.
Serve as direct supervisor for all Student Life Graduate Assistants.
Assist in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of the goals and objectives for the Office of Student Life.
Supervise and manage graduate assistants, interns, and student-workers assigned to student activities.
Lead and direct all aspects of campus-wide social, cultural and educational programming that supports the intellectual, personal, and social development of all students.
Assist in the strategic and tactical planning efforts that result in student life initiatives that support the university vision, mission, and strategic goals.
Initiate, implement, and coordinate activities, programs, and services that enhance student involvement, engagement, and leadership development.
Assist in the creation of an environment that promotes an integrated student experience through intentional collaboration with Academics, Athletics, Residence Life, Student Leadership & Engagement, and other administrative units across campus.
Work closely with the Graduate Assistants in promoting and developing high quality and high impact leadership programs (i.e. Leadership Day, Student Life Leadership Banquet, etc.)
Work with the Office of Alumni Relations to engage students in the philanthropic process of the university.
Seek, plan, coordinate, and facilitate external grant and special funding for student programming.
Assist with the design, implement and execute an on-going assessment plan to include learning outcomes for students; and implement improvements as appropriate.
Facilitate fiscal management of budgets for student activities and the Student Government Association.
Monitor and track expenses of clubs/organizations and ensure SGA and Class books are reconciled quarterly in a timely manner.
Assist in the planning of New Student Orientation and Blue & Gold Day Programs in the fall and spring semesters.
Work with the Assistant Dean of Students to coordinate the selection and training of all orientation leaders/peer mentors.
Provide assistance and guidance to students in the process of creating new organizations, the registration procedures, training officers, event planning, and advising the groups to ensure successful programming.
Develop and provide ongoing training for student organizations and the club/organization advisors.
Review all student program contracts and maintain contact with essential vendors/agents; and provide supervision and presence at campus events, as well as traditional events (i.e. Back Porch Party, Winter Formal, etc.).
Assist with coordination of campus events sponsored by other departments.
Maintain the student organization portion of the website and serve a resource person for all groups.
Support the Dean of Students as necessary; assume and effectively discharge other duties as assigned.
Serve on university wide committees and taskforces as requested and approved by supervisor.
Be willing to travel for professional development.
Provide the Campus Activities Board and club leaders with professional development opportunities with organizations like NACA, APCA etc.
Integrate the core values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice, and service in all aspects of interaction.
Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
Some Residence Life duties may be assigned if the activities coordinator chooses to live on-campus.
Bachelor's degree required
At least two years of experience or related work experience in campus programming or Graduate work in Student Activities.
Familiarity with current educational trends, politics of thought, protocols, and student programs; working knowledge of faculty involvement, student development, programmatic assessment, challenges and opportunities associated with student engagement, retention and persistence.
Strong planning and organizational skills are essential.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while prioritizing according to time constraints and need.
Required flexible evening and weekend hours.
Strong self-starter and team player.
Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and people with a wide variety of personalities.
Proficiency in modern office equipment and computer software (Microsoft Office, Email, Internet), and database management.
Physical Demands: Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional lifting of light objects; work is performed in an office and on campus grounds.
