Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine is located on a 585-acre campus in North Grafton, MA. it includes teaching hospitals for large and small animals and wildlife, excellent facilities to conduct state-of-the-art biomedical research and to train veterinary and graduate students, and a 250-acre working farm. the school also maintains the tufts veterinary field service in Woodstock, CT and the tufts veterinary emergency treatment service in Walpole, MA. Cummings school has four academic departments with a total of 100 faculty members. Academic programs support 400 DVM students and approximately 50 graduate students, as well as nearly 100 advanced clinical trainees and postdoctoral scholars.
The Faculty Affairs Officer serves as a central resource for information about faculty and as a referral source for faculty appointments, promotions and policies/procedures. This position reports directly to the Dean but works closely with the School leadership to ensure effective appointment, reappointment and promotion processes for faculty. The individual will be the School's resource for all faculty related matters and the in-house resource on School and University policies and procedures as it relates to the Faculty. The individual will be responsible for maintaining faculty data, faculty appointment and promotion policies and procedures, and Faculty governance policies and procedures. In addition, the individual will be responsible for ensuring that all appointments and contracts are current and that each faculty member's relationship with the School is properly managed. In addition, the Faculty Affairs Officer provides administrative leadership for the Dean in their academic and executive leadership responsibilities, particularly in areas related to faculty programs for special projects.
Basic Requirements: BA, BS, equivalent degree or equivalent experience with 5 plus years' experience in administrative support in higher education or in a similar sized organization. Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), database software, Internet and Web proficiency. Strong communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team. High attention to detail. Willingness to travel to the Tufts Medford or Boston campuses and to Woodstock CT, as required. Professionalism and discretion in handling difficult and sensitive issues in a confidential manner.
Preferred Qualifications: Specific experience in areas related to faculty support, faculty affairs, or human resources would be considered an asset.
The position requires strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal, writing, planning and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects in a complex environment; willingness and ability to work collaboratively and collegially; working knowledge of, administrative computer software and systems and database management software.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: This is primarily an office-based position. However, flexibility to work as needed beyond the typical work week during occasional periods of critical deadline pressure or special events, (for example, American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Accreditation Site Visit).
