Collaborate directly with the Division Heads, Vice Chairman, Administrators, Managers and other Program Managers to provide leadership in developing and improving the conduct of all research within the Department of Medicine.
Assist with implementation of Department Chairman's research vision and goals.
Develop long and short-term goals to support the conduct of clinical research within the assigned research program(s).
Collaborate with Clinical Research Administration institutional leadership in streamlining the conduct of research activities throughout the center through key initiatives.
Provide oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the assigned research programs, ensuring the highest data quality, regulatory compliance, data management, and strategic planning.
Direct the functions and activities of staff. Responsible for interviewing, hiring and training of new research, management and other employees, as well as the ongoing training of existing employees. Evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
Responsible for the daily operational activities of research programs clinical research staff, regardless of physical location.
Provide direction to staff in establishing work schedules and priorities to ensure that workflow is controlled and meets the needs of the department. Communicate and ensure compliance with institutional/departmental policies and procedures, quality standards and improvement initiatives.
Implement solutions for streamlining and accelerating the monitoring and review of clinical trials data to significantly increase accrual to clinical trials, data cleaning, data quality, and trial completion.
Ensure an adequate balance between MSKCCs research mission and its fiscal responsibilities: areas to include data management, nursing, pharmacy, physicians, and patient care costs. Provide financial reporting relative to research funds.
Working knowledge of the Common Rule (45 CFR 46), the Privacy Rule (45 CFR 160, 164) and the regulations that govern human subjects research issued by the Food and Drug Administration (21 CFR 50, 56), and others as needed.
Understand current standards for Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines defined by the International Committee on Harmonization, FDA, NCI/NIH, OHRP, and the Office of Civil Rights, and according to state and institutional regulations.
Provide information and guidance to MSK investigators, administrators and clinical research staff on questions and issues regarding human subjects protection compliance in accordance with the regulations as it pertains to clinical research finances including CMS regulations, research billing practices, budgeting requirements, etc.
Participate or coordinate on both inter-institutional, interdepartmental and intradepartmental organization-wide research projects as requested.
Provide leadership, organizational, or creative support to established and new research initiatives.
Work independently on special research initiatives. Projects may include but are not limited to special requests for Supervisor/Chair/ Vice Chair/Chief/Division Head, Compliance Office, Research Council, IRB, Office of Clinical Research, and Office of the Physician-in-Chief or any regulatory compliance projects.
Attends/leads assigned committees/projects ensuring that assignments and goals are completed accurately and within the assigned time frames
Bachelors degree plus 7-10 years of clinical research and/or program management experience
4 years of program management experience strongly preferred
The ability to apply broad technical, clinical/professional knowledge and significant job-related experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Prior experience in data analysis, relationship management, staff management, healthcare and operations management.
Consistently self-directed and a self-starter, leader and facilitator of group dynamics.
Ability to develop relationships at all levels throughout the organization.
Ability to work ideas through from idea to implementation and evaluation; think creatively and build consensus around a common vision/goal.
