Housing & Residence Life (HRL), is a self-supporting auxiliary organization within the University Life unit of George Mason University. HRL serves a highly diverse population of approximately 6,200 students, the majority of which are undergraduates living in traditional, suite and apartment-style residence halls in three campuses within the vibrant Northern Virginia area. HRL employs over 170 full-time and graduate staff members and over 350 undergraduate student staff members. Purpose of the Position:
The Director of Housing Operations provides administration and vision-setting for all housing operation functions within Housing and Residence Life (HRL). The Director of Housing Operations, as a supervisory role, leads the Associate Director of Housing Conference and Summer Operations, Associate Director of Housekeeping, and the Associate Director of Housing Facilities. They act in an advisory capacity on all housing operations as it relates to the general maintenance/upkeep of the residence halls, intern housing and conference housing, housekeeping and recruiting George Mason University residence halls as potential venues for summer conferences. Additionally, they are charged with maintaining and supporting the physical facilities for a campus housing system comprised of nearly 6000 beds in forty-six (46) residential facilities. They will oversee the operations budget and serve as contract manager/liaison, as well as ensuring a high level of cleanliness and attention to the health and safety of our residents.
Primary responsibilities include Facilities Management, Housekeeping and Maintenance, Conference and Summer Operations, Supervision Administration, and departmental duties.

May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor;
Works under general supervision and reports to the Chief Housing Officer/Assistant Dean of Housing and Residence Life;
Supervises and evaluates the performance of Associate Director of Housing Conferences and Summer Operations, Associate Director of Housing Operations and Associate Director of Housing Facilities;
Oversees all aspects of HRL Summer Operations planning and preparation during the academic year, including, but not limited to, facilities, summer assignments, recruitment of conferences, billing, client billing, payment of vendor invoices, dispute resolution with clients and vendors, staffing, and training;
Oversees operations/sales strategy for the residence halls at George Mason University as a potential venue for summer conference, workshops, meetings, and retreats that meet the budgetary goals of the department;
Oversees problems associated with housing operations staff, equipment operation, and asset control and procurement; ability to troubleshoot problems;
Oversees the daily cleaning and upkeep of over 1.75 M square feet of real estate to prior established standards;
Oversees renewal plan and preventative maintenance schedule for the residence halls;
Provides overall leadership to the maintenance and grounds services of housing facilities;
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Education or training (cite major area of study):
Master's degree is minimum, full time experience in university housing or an equivalent combination of education and experience required where there was experienced related to managing and maintaining facilities and/or working with summer conference and housing operations;
10+ years of progressively increasing work in student housing, educational administration, student service or comprehensive operations with high expectations for customer service;
Supervisory experience within a large-scale University residential or multi-residential community maintenance/housekeeping position;
Must regularly exercise discretionary actions, professional discretion and judgement;
Typically have responsibility for supervision and evaluation of a significant number of staff and/or professional faculty, and budgetary responsibility for their unit or a substantive program;
Operational experience with budgets, purchasing and contract management;
Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated success in customer service and satisfaction; includes the ability to interact daily with students, parents, and faculty;
Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, and lead the work of a varied group of skilled and semi-skilled workers;
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;
Demonstrated project planning success;
Proven ability to manage time effectively;
Self-motivated with the ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative;
Ability to train and supervise personnel;
Working knowledge of the StarRez, MPulse, School Dude or other leading university housing management database software;
Working knowledge of OSHA safety and regulatory standards;
Experienced computer skills in typical office management software (e.g. MS Office), with the ability to provide reporting and analyses as requested.
Previous experience in a Director of Housing (or related) position;
Experience in a large, dynamic housing/student affairs environment using StarRez.
Salary: Starting salary low 100K. Commensurate with education and experience.
