Employees in this classification carry out a variety of food preparation tasks of limited complexity according to established standards. Specific instructions are given on a task-by-task basis and carried out under the direct leadership or supervision of a higher-level worker or supervisor. Employees at this level follow specific culinary standards, which may include the portioning or seasoning of menu items, or combining of ingredients. When individual positions require a combination of cleaning duties, as outlined under FSW I, and simple food preparation duties, the position should be classified as a FSW II rather than FSW I, if and only if, the workers' duties at the FSW II level constitute at least 30% of workers duties on a regular and continuing basis.
Reviews menu/recipe/production sheet with lead cook, cook or supervisor. Prepares items for cooking including cleaning, cutting or slicing vegetables and meats, tenderizing and breading meats, weighing and measuring ingredients.
Informs lead or shift supervisor if food is unavailable.
Prep all sandwich items, condiment items and pantry items for lunch in the cafe and catering.
Assist with ingredient preparation which includes: cleaning, chopping, slicing, weighing, measuring, and preparing ingredients. You are responsible for using the correct measuring tools and ensuring optimum quality of the food you prepare.
Ensures food for following day is labeled and ready for use. Informs lead or shift supervisor if food is beyond holding time or below acceptable standards.
Assembles and cleans equipment.
Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas.
Adheres to food and safety handling policies and procedures.
May interact with customers in accordance with R&DE customer service standards; interactions may involve solving food quality issues.
May perform drop-off or delivery services.
May perform any of the duties described in the Food Services Worker I specification or other duties as assigned.
Adhere to safety rules.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience: Prior food service experience
Must have the ability to understand and communicate in English with adequate proficiency to follow directions from supervisor, read and understand safety guidelines and direction to prevent accidents or injuries from occurring, and communicate effectively with customers (staff, visitors, students) by listening and speaking clearly to them.
Ability to utilize computerized ordering system including entering and reading orders.
Ability to obtain and maintain California Food Handler Training Certificate.
Certifications and Licenses:
If handling food, California Food Handler Training Certificate within 90 days of hire.
If performing drop - off or delivery services valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's license.
Frequently walking, bending, kneeling, hand and finger dexterity (light/find grasping, grasp forcefully), and reaching working above shoulders.
Occasionally, sitting, squatting and climbing.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 15 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally and over 50 pounds rarely.
If performing drop-off or delivery services, ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class Drivers' license.
