Adjunct Faculty, MS Cybersecurity Engineering Fundamentals

Despite best efforts, most people and organizations are not prepared to deal with the level of sophistication employed by cyber adversaries.
USD's Center for CyberSecurity Engineering and Technology holistically assists business, government, law enforcement and private citizens to better prepare and respond to highly trained adversaries who are responsible for billions in lost revenue each year; catastrophic disruptions in service; terrorism and activism; a dark web of criminal activity; and constant peril to critical infrastructure.
The University of San Diego's (USD) Center for CyberSecurity Engineering and Technology (CCSET) as part of the Computer Science (CS) Department of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE) is seeking Adjunct Faculty candidates to teach MSCSE courses during Spring 2020 semester, with potential contract renewal for Summer 2020 and following academic years.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Teaching one or more of the following courses: CYBR 503, CYBR 504, CYBR 506, CYBR 508 (course descriptions are included below).
Working with the CCSET chair and MSCSE faculty to improve instructional materials and hands-on class exercises to enhance student's learning outcomes and engagement.
Collecting relevant course data for accreditation and course improvement purposes.
Assisting with the USD National Security Agency/DHS Center of Academic Excellence
CYBR 503 The Cybersecurity Domain
This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of cybersecurity. It includes understanding the concepts of threats, vulnerabilities, and risk as the definition of security for a system. The course examines types of global security policies, provides the definition and examples of contemporary technical, administrative, and physical security controls and establishes the foundation for global system engineering requirements. Common attacks and mitigations, and the shortcomings of common, contemporary cybersecurity models are analyzed. The cybersecurity network testing will be conducted in the student's Cybersecurity Sandbox.
CYBR 504 Applied Cryptography
This course is an introduction to core principles of modern cryptography and mathematics of cryptographic methods and systems. It includes description of common cryptographic algorithms, pseudorandom generators and encryption. Students will see aspects of applying and assessing cryptographic systems including defense against attacks and vulnerabilities. Class labs and project will be conducted in the Cybersecurity Sandbox.
CYBR 506 Security System Life Cycle
In this course the student will be introduced to the approaches for building confidence in the ability of a computer system to correctly enforce the security policy at every stage of the system development life cycle. Class labs and project will be conducted in the Cybersecurity Sandbox.
CYBR 508 Secure Network Engineering
This course continues into the design of secure and sustainable networks. This includes network hardening methods, advanced configurations of security devices such in IPS, and secure Cloud Computing. Verification testing of networks configurations utilizing the Cybersecurity Sandbox
A Masters degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Information Technology or a related technical field
Industry or Military experience in Cybersecurity or Information Technology
A strong interest in teaching masters-level courses and prior teaching experience
Prior course development experience
Cybersecurity industry certifications
Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
Consistent with the School of Engineering part-time faculty compensation rates.
