Indiana University East invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Composition and Rhetoric for the academic year beginning August 1, 2020. IU East's English program includes a robust writing program, undergraduate technical and professional writing concentration (online), graduate composition certificate and MA program. Preferred secondary research interests include technical and professional writing, WAC, digital humanities, and/or writing program administration. Interest or experience in digital literacy, program assessment or writing-in-the-disciplines approaches to curriculum are desirable. Candidates must demonstrate a strong desire to excel in teaching and provide ongoing support for student success in and out of the classroom. The position includes teaching first year composition, undergraduate and graduate courses, online and seated, as well as assisting in the Writing Program. The successful candidate will also participate in department, school and university service activities and governance. Experience developing and teaching online courses (or a strong desire to learn) is a plus. A commitment to an active program of research and scholarship and to excellence in teaching is expected.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities :
Teach in the writing program, undergraduate, and graduate courses, including online and in-person courses (3/3 teaching load per regular semester).
Assist in writing program activities, including program assessment.
Manage the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school and campus academic policies.
Maintain academic citizenship through active participation in departmental and campus service, and a shared responsibility for creating a productive work environment.
Demonstrate the ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse populations within the university and community.
Earned Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric is required at time of appointment.
Preferred secondary research interests include technical and professional writing, WAC, digital humanities and/or writing program administration.
Demonstrated commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching.
