This position is in the Department of Neurology. The position is located at the Irene W. Johnson Institute. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Position acts as a clinic resource in a large multi-physician clinical practice; functions as a Medical Assistant in the department, assists nursing staff with patient care coordination, schedules ambulatory testing, obtains reports and records; directs patient flow and ensures the overall smooth running of the clinical office.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with scheduling all ancillary testing to ensure optimal patient outcomes by facilitating communication and coordination of care between patients, families, and health team members.
Responsible for renewal and authorization of non-narcotic medications per standing orders and department/section guidelines.� Can transcribe a written narcotic order and obtain physician signature for processing.
Completes tasks outlined under the department and section guidelines such as calling patients regarding treatments, test results, appointments and follow-up testing, ensures that patient communications, messages and questions between the appropriate care providers and the patient are completed while providing everyday service excellence.
Assist with filling out insurance/disability/FMLA/Consent forms and completes the necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
Attends pediatric Botox Clinics assisting doctor’s for their MA needs.
Consent patients for Movement Disorders Outcomes study and maintain records for this study. Create patient records in the MARS medical record system for research follow up.
Maintains required HIPAA compliance, skills/competencies and participates in in-services, staff programs, continuing education, and cross-training programs according to established standards and Washington University policies.
Complies with OSHA, state and federal regulatory sources/standards.
Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED; a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include:
Medical Assistant certification/registration eligible with successful completion of certification exam within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Must be able to show proof of Medical Assistant registration/certification or complete Medical Assistant registration/certification within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
2 years of specialty specific or related work experience or 4 years of medical assistant experience.
Expert in professional and clinical skills.
Able to anticipate needs, solve problems with minimal assistance, trustworthy and flexible.
Possess the skills to troubleshoot electronic medical records, train staff, manage volumes, think on their feet, etc.
Interactive communication skills with ability to work with physicians, patients, families, significant others, and support staff; must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills, working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of medical terminology, and experience/knowledge working with electronic medical records.
The hiring range for this position is $15.85 - $19.43 per hour.
