The Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP, usaeop.com) provides students and teachers a collaborative, cohesive, portfolio of Army-sponsored STEM programs that effectively engage, inspire, and attract the next generation of STEM talent through K though college programs and expose them to Department of Defense (DoD) STEM careers. A member of the Consortium of collaborative organizations working together to support the AEOP and led by Battelle Memorial Institute, RIT is executing the AEOP STEM apprenticeships and leading the AEOP career development effort.
The AEOP Apprenticeships program is a DoD funded, grant-based initiative that helps to address the Nation's need for a diverse, agile, and highly competent STEM literate talent pool. AEOP provides high school and undergraduate college students with hands-on STEM research opportunities in military and university laboratories across the United States and its Territories. Participating in AEOP apprenticeships offers students the unique opportunity to be mentored and trained by senior Army, Army-sponsored, or university faculty researchers while conducting real-world research. The AEOP apprenticeship programs for high school students are comprised of the Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP), High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP) and Research and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP). The AEOP apprenticeship programs for college students are comprised of the College Qualified Leaders (CQL) program and the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP). The AEOP, with leadership from RIT and support from the AEOP Consortium, will develop and implement a comprehensive career development element to supplement the Army's existing apprenticeship programs. This may include the addition of graduate level research, mission specific multi-generational team challenges, mentorship trainings, etc.
The AEOP Apprenticeship and Career Development Program Coordinator will provide direct career development, career success, and experiential learning direction and support to AEOP apprentices. Job duties include:
1.Build and maintain knowledge of Army/DoD STEM careers and the evolving needs of Army/DoD research labs.
2.Develop and deliver customized web-based instruction on job search strategies, career trends and issues, and workplace success.
3.Communicate regularly and effectively with applicants, apprentices, and alumni regarding additional AEOP opportunities, Army/DoD careers, instructional program/service offerings, and important career trend information. Implement a text-based mentoring system and a social media campaign.
4.Collaborate with AEOP Consortium members, Lab Coordinators, University PIs, and apprenticeship mentors to ensure services and support to apprentices are being effectively provided and that the apprentice career development goals of all stakeholders are being achieved.
5.Develop and implement outreach/recruitment campaigns that target diverse, highly qualified and skilled program. Support candidates through the application process.
6.Facilitate the stipend payment and tracking process.
7.Showcase the success of the AEOP apprenticeship programs through annual reports and news stories.
The Program Coordinator will report to the Director of the AEOP Apprenticeships and Career Development Program. Occasional weekend or evening hours and travel to AEOP Consortium meetings and events may be required. The position based out of the RIT K12 University Center at RIT's main campus. The successful candidate will hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and will have experience in social media marketing as well as cooperative education, workforce development, career mentoring, and/or youth programs. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented independent worker who will represent RIT and the AEOP professionally at all times.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in cooperative education, workforce development, career mentoring, and/or youth programs
- Experience in providing career or cooperative education mentoring
-Knowlede of workforce readiness curriculums
-Outstanding attention to detail
-Ability to work in spreadsheets and comfort with numbers
-Excellent customer service skills
-Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; must be adept at communicating with audiences of all backgrounds and education levels
-Values and supports individual differences. Able to work with diverse populations.
-Values transparency, accountability, and communication. Embraces a team attitude.
-Ability to listen, strategize and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

Preferred Experience and Specialized Skills
- Masters Degree in related field - 2 years of experience in social media marketing - Experience working high school and/or college apprenticeship programs.
- Knowledge of STEM career paths.
-Experience with budgets.
-Knowledge of DoD/Army laboratories.
