The University Library seeks a Business Librarian, a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Appointment Description: Tenure-track faculty position, available September, 2020. This position is an 8-month academic year appointment, with an additional Summer appointment possible.
As a member of the Library faculty, the Business Librarian serves as the primary liaison to the College of Business (COB) and allied fields.
The Business Librarian collaborates with faculty to enhance information literacy by teaching course integrated library instruction sessions, assisting users via research consultations, creating online research guides and tutorials, assessing learning outcomes, and finding other creative ways to work with faculty and students.
The Business Librarian develops the library's business collection, including books, databases, and periodical subscriptions. He or she uses knowledge from frequent interaction with the faculty to inform collection decisions and actively promote library services. The Business Librarian may serve on the Collection Development Team providing input on major collection decisions.
The Business Librarian also works as part of the Public Services team to continuously enhance the user experience. This involves providing research assistance to all library users (both in-person and online) and collaborating on public service team efforts.
Beyond these primary assignments, contributions to scholarship and service are required for tenure and promotion.
The Business Librarian may perform related Departmental duties as required.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Professional Library Service
Serve on search committees for hiring of new faculty members, departmental committees and other service committees across the university.
Participate in activities such as student registration, orientation, convocations and commencements.
Attend and participate in scheduled departmental meetings and functions.
Provide other support service to the department, college and/or university, if applicable.
Engage in pursuits that enable them to remain current in their respective disciplines.
Engage in pursuits that help to further organize and contribute to growth of the body of knowledge in their respective disciplines, and/or to explore interdisciplinary implications.
Perform related Departmental duties as required.
ALA accredited Masters degree in library or information science, by the time of hire
Demonstrated interest in or experience using business information resources
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
Evidence of both professional initiative and flexibility
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse university community
Experience creating instructional materials, such as research guides or tutorials
Experience providing in-person or online reference service
Understanding of current collection development practices
Understanding of information literacy standards
Experience in business reference and instruction, preferably at an AACSB accredited institution
Degree or coursework in business or a related field
Experience finding or working with statistics and datasets
Knowledge of legal research and/or government information
Knowledge of instructional methods and learning assessment
