Harborview Medical Center's Department of Social Work has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR to provide leadership, management and coordination of clinical units ensuring efficient and effective patient care. The Director of Harborview Abuse and Trauma Center administers, on a 24-hour basis, a major unit of the Harborview Medical Center (HMC) Social Work Department. The unit is accountable to a variety of community funding and governmental entities, as well as to HMC. The combined programs have medical, counseling, prevention, training, research and evaluation, and Foster Care Assessment services, with 65 staff including physician faculty, SANE nurses, prevention, social work and support positions.
This position oversees departmental budgets, operations and all personnel actions. Duties include overseeing daily operations of the department, maintaining the department's adherence to all regulatory requirements and funding mandates, and providing leadership in the development of process improvement initiatives aimed at improving patient satisfaction and increasing the efficient use of resources. This role is essential for ensuring optimal provision of social work services to patients and families on assigned units and will share on-call support responsibility.
Assume overall management of the operations of all HATC programs including assessment/counseling services, medical services, prevention, the Foster Care Assessment Program, education and training, and research/evaluation
Provide direct administrative and program oversight to the HATC programs (in conjunction with other program managers)
Manage all related personnel functions
Manage all fiscal aspects of all program areas
Manage grants and contracts by seeking funding opportunities and new initiatives; writing grants and monitoring fiscal and operational outcomes; reviewing and approving reports and budgets; and ensuring all outcomes and deliverables are met
Develop annual budget involving approximately 13 cost centers totaling over $4,200,000
Managing efficient daily operations of all program areas
Direct the management and supervisory team to include all areas from hiring to disciplinary action, assigning work duties and ensuring program outcomes are met
Conduct management team meetings and provide one-to-one administrative supervision to unit managers
Serve as lead HATC representative in community meetings; with local and state governments; and with the legislature on policy issues
Receive and respond to complaints/unusual incidents in all programs
Serve as liaison to programs/departments in HMC, including planning, problem solving, responding to complaints, developing new initiatives
Plan and coordinate with HMC regarding delivery of sexual assault and SANE related medical services in the HMC Emergency Department and other HMC facilities where HMC SANE services are provided
Represent HATC programs in Social Work Department management meetings and coordinate with other Associate and Assistant Directors
Meet regularly with Social Work Director for administrative supervision
Provide training and in-service education within the program, the academic medical center, the University, and in regional, national and international venues
Provide direct clinical services as required

Master’s degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND seven (7) years of full-time professional social work experience
Four (4) years of experience in a counseling or health care setting, including four (4) years of social work management experience at least two (2) of which must be in a health care setting
Experience writing and managing grants and contracts, including: budgeting, data collection, and overseeing audits
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS Active WA State Independent Clinical Social Worker license within one year of hire.
