The mission of 4-H Camp Bristol Hills is to provide youth with a unique, fun outdoor experience under the guidance of positive role models, emphasizing positive social interaction, environmental awareness and skill building.
The temporary Summer Camp Clerk is responsible for the operational oversight of the camp store, and acquisition of teaching/program supplies as requested by camp staff and approved by Camp Director/ Assistant Directors. The Camp Clerk is also responsible for financial record keeping and cash deposits with the Finance Manager at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County. The Camp Clerk is not required to live on the camp property, but may choose to do so.
The temporary Summer Camp Clerk will assume this role on June 22, 2020 in order to assist the Camp Manager and Camp Administrative Assistant in preparing Camp Store Pre-Orders. The Camp Clerk will work one week of preparation, staff training week, and 6 weeks of residential camp that run from Sunday morning to Friday evening each week. Specific dates of camp are July 7 - August 16, 2019. Pending availability, the Camp Clerk could begin work as early as June 1.
Assist with preparation of Camp Store Pre-Orders
Set up the physical Camp Store space
Conduct pre-season and weekly inventory
Train additional staff, as needed, in operation of cash register
Operate the Camp Store each day after lunch
Reconcile daily sales receipts with cash intake, and prepare weekly deposits in accordance with the Camp Store Manual of Operation
Coordinate with the Camp Director and Assistant Directors to collect materials requisition forms and purchase needed supplies.
Coordinate with Food Service Director for food-related requests
Work with the Camp Manager to monitor sales and identify merchandise that may need to be reordered throughout the summer
Communicate with Camp staff regarding any materials that were unable to be acquired
Assume responsibility for interpreting the rules, policies, and traditions of the camp to the camper
Serve as a positive role model in language, appearance, and behavior
Assume responsibility for health and welfare of campers in his/her bunk
Support and embrace diversity in all interactions with campers, other staff members, volunteers and parents. Implement programs that engage diverse backgrounds, interests and learning styles.
Organize, plan, and lead camp programs
Other duties may be assigned as required
Be physically able to accompany the campers to any of the camp activities
Assure campers are properly supervised at all times
Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, and involvement and empowerment of youth
Have visual ability to recognize hazards in the camp setting as well as physical symptoms of camper injury or illness
Have auditory ability to respond appropriately to hazards and any camper concerns
Be able to observe camper behavior in daily camp life, to respond verbally to health and safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with any improper behavior
21 years of age or older
Drivers License and successful completion of a motor vehicles background check
Ability to communicate effectively with Camp Director, entire camp staff, campers and camp families
Incorporates teamwork and flexibility into their daily work style
Ability to work with peers
Ability to plan and lead programs
Salary and Benefit Details
Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits are not available for this position.
