Centre College invites applications for a non-tenure track, biology laboratory instructor and coordinator position to start in August 2020. This is a three-year, renewable position. The Biology program seeks a teacher who will enhance the learning and teaching environment at Centre College with their experience, ideas, and perspectives. Responsibilities include coordination and instruction for all laboratory sections of our introductory biology course, BIO110: Evolution, Biodiversity, and Ecology. We seek individuals committed to undergraduate teaching and active learning, and who are willing to revise and develop new inquiry-based exercises for students in collaboration with other Biology faculty members.
Duties for this 10-month (August 1 - May 31) position include co-teaching (with the course instructor) the lab component of three to five BIO 110 sections (each capped at 28 students) during each fall and spring terms; hiring, training, and supervising a small cadre of undergraduate lab assistants; maintaining the greenhouse teaching collection; grading student notebooks and assignments; managing electronic course materials; and coordinating weekly meetings with course instructors to discuss revisions and preparation for each week's lab. Additional duties include coordinating microscope maintenance, managing the disposable supplies inventory for the Biology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Programs, and serving on a college committee.
Preference will be given to applicants with an M.S. or Ph.D. in biology, zoology, botany, microbiology, ecology, evolution, or related fields and demonstrated ability to teach in a laboratory setting.
