Essential Job Duties:
The Assistant Director of Student Involvement reports directly to the Associate Director of Student Involvement.
Primary work responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serve as the primary advisor for elected student body officers
Serve as the primary advisor for Executive Branch, Legislative Branch and Board of Elections, and Treasury
Supervise graduate assistant for Student Government (20 hour assistantship)
Manage budgets totaling over $420,000 in student fees, ensuring proper expenditures of allocated funds
Oversight, empowerment, and education of Student Government (SG) compliance with NC State University policies, rules, and regulations as well as relevant federal and state laws
Guide SG student organization appropriations process
Coordinate and support implementation of co-curricular programs, activities and retreats including training and workshops
Advise student leaders on policy, procedures and organizational development
Maintain documentation and develop institutional memory to promote organization sustainability and mission continuity
Develop sustainability and development plan for long-term organizational health
Risk management assessment, mitigation, prevention of SG events and initiatives
Review and learn technology-based tools for Student Government including Campus Labs Engage
Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with multiple constituents including campus offices, students, staff, faculty members and various other community groups
Manage space operations and procedures for SG suite
Advise and mentor SG leaders at varied levels of development and experience
Maintain expertise on shared governance, student fees and SG guiding and governing docuements
Support student body elections through data management and advising
Ability to appropriately balance institutional interests and student advocacy
Attend pertinent SG meetings and programs including recurring cabinet and senate meetings
Assist students with developing, implementing and analyzing assessment procedures for student government services and programs.
Participate in university, divisional, and departmental committees and initiatives
Assist in advancing the mission and strategic plan for the Division of Academic and Student Affairs and the Office of Student Involvement
Support student organization education and management
Advise, mentor, develop and evaluate student and organizational development and success.
Coordinate, implement and evaluate programs and services.
Assess and manage risk effectively in developing programs and services.
Develop and present trainings for student leaders and organizations.
Ensure student organizations are in compliance with all relevant federal, state and University policies.
Other duties as assigned in support of the Student Involvement mission.
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Demonstrated event planning experience
Demonstrated experience working with diverse student and staff populations
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
Available to attend evening meetings and occasional weekend events/programs
Demonstrated experience advising SG on legislation, intatives, and advocacy
Demonstrated experience directly advising Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, Treasury and Elections governing body
Demonstrated experience directly advising student body officers
Demonstrated experience with communication and marketing plan
Demonstrated experience developing programmatic assessment plan
Demonstrated knowledge and application of student development theory
Working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order
Demonstrated experience utilizing technology-based tools including Campus Labs Engage
Demonstrated experience developing student leader training
Required license or certification:
A valid NC Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
