The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) is responsible for the overall delivery of nursing services within multiple service lines for the Greenville Memorial Hospital (GMH) campus.The ACNO works under the direction of the CNO to provide direction, leadership , planning, organization and overall management for all aspects of nursing care. S/he assures that competent, compassionate patient care is uniformly provided to patients. Accountable for delivery of quality patient care services,clinical outcomes, customer satisfaction (including patients, physicians, & employees) and financial results within areas of responsibility. Responsible for assuring appropriate patient placement and staffing at GMH. Works collaboratively with all clinical services to ensure practice operations are consistent across the campus. Ensures recruitment, retention, training, competency, and continuing education of team members. May be called upon to act in the absence of the CNO Central Region.
Leadership: Provides leadership and implements strategies to ensure safe and patient focused, cost effective quality care. Facilitates the development and deployment of policies, practices, and programs that support quality care. Communicates and operationalizes the nursing strategic plan. Establishes and maintains an environment supporting shared governance that results in patient care excellence. Promotes inter professional collaboration.
Attracts, retains and develops the best and brightest Nursing leadership team and communicates the role of nursing and issues of patient care to the organization.
Facilitates, reviews, and approves the budget for assigned departments, including estimates of future personnel and equipment needs. Ensures that organizational resources are optimally utilized through participating in strategic planning and financial budgeting processes, negotiation and review of contracted services, development of practices that achieve specific objectives, and resolution of unfavorable performance variances. Understands care management/performance improvement principles and advocates for resources necessary for patient care.
Coordinates, develops, implements, and ensures compliance to system wide and departmental specific policies and procedures, performance standards, nursing practice, regulatory and accreditation requirements .Supports a culture of analysis of errors and near misses in a just culture.
Adheres to Age Appropriate Standards of Care for the patient population(s) served on assigned units and services. Identifies patient and family needs of the populations served. Recommends and/or develops new programs and services to meet those needs. Ensures that age specific equipment, supplies, and educational resources are available for assigned units/services.
Collaborates with department staff to determine the qualifications and competence of department/service personnel who provide care and services. Creates an atmosphere with personnel where each individual is free to function at the highest possible level within the established lines of authority, providing assistance when needed. Develops capabilities of individuals and teams to promote quality care.
Ensures that inter professional performance improvement programs are active; maintains ongoing monitoring and evaluation processes, patient care and outcomes. Collaborates in achieving and or maintaining patient care services at GMMC as patient focused with excellent patient experience.
Performs a variety of human resource management functions including the interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counselling, and terminating of assigned management and support staff. Fosters an empowered workforce through role clarification, delegation of responsibility, and accountability. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in fields of expertise. Supports and promotes education and research.
Collaborates with the Medical Staff on patient care issues and program development. Informs Campus CNO, CMO, CCO and CEO of actual or anticipated critical situations and/or results of action(s) taken. Takes necessary independent action toward solutions when administrative problems occur.
Five years progressive leadership experience including large tertiary hospital experience with CNO , ACNO or Director of Nursing experience required.
Master's degree required.
