Reporting to the University Director of Grants and Sponsored Projects, the Senior Sponsored Programs Specialist provides centralized support for proposal preparation, and review and authorization of post-award transactions. Serves as liaison for financial matters with the sponsoring agencies. The Senior Sponsored Programs Specialist is primarily responsible for providing life-cycle fiscal management of sponsored project awards, serving as the focal point between the sponsoring agency and the Principal Investigator.
The Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects (GSP) operates under the aegis of the Office of the University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU). The GSP oversees the submission of proposals with a wide range of sponsors, supporting all government and foundation research proposals across the University's two primary campuses in Teaneck-Hackensack and Madison, New Jersey, and in the international campus in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The GSP supports institutional research goals by working with faculty and staff in the preparation, review and transmission of proposals to funding agencies, and with oversight of awards once obtained. It manages a portfolio of diverse university schools, departments, center and institutes, interpreting and implementing sponsor guidelines, university policies and procedures, and federal and state regulations while minimizing the university's compliance risk. The GSP provides guidance and communications, education and training to faculty and staff associated with sponsored activities, and keeps abreast of new developments in the field of research administration.
Bachelor’s degree plus four years of experience working in an academic research-focused administrative environment, e.g. central sponsored grants administration and/or basic or applied research environment directly assisting faculty in administrative preparation of grant proposals, and post-award life-cycle fiduciary oversight/responsibilities of government grant awards. Master's degree preferred plus two or more years of experience in research administration, grants and contract administration/management or related field, or any equivalent combination experience, training and/or education.
2. Must have a working knowledge of Uniform Guidance, 2 CFR Part 200, proficiency in post award sponsor systems, data management, document preparation/management, and strong analytical skills with proficiency in MS Excel for the creation of budgets and financial workbooks.
3. Must be able to assemble narrative and fiscal information into a coherent written form, e.g., for submission to sponsoring agencies.
4. Excellent time and management skills with the ability to work independently in a deadline driven environment, and communicate in accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communications.
5. Ability to function decisively in ambiguous situations and apply knowledge and understanding in broad contexts.
6. Must be highly service, team and goal oriented, with an ability and flexibility to identify, manage and respond to competing priorities.
