Existing specialties of nanotechnology, additive manufacturing, and intelligent maintenance systems are just the start. The Associate Dean of Research will lead future convergent research by connecting researchers with new sources of funding and existing labs with new partners for exponential impact.
Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean for Research will be responsible for effectively organizing and supervising the process of proposal development and submission; contract approval, including evaluating cost sharing and commitments of space and personnel. The Associate Dean will coordinate multi-investigator research initiatives, respond to requests for college matching funds and cost sharing, and serve as the college liaison to the Vice President for Research and external funding agencies. The Associate Dean will be expected to foster research collaborations within the College of Engineering and Applied Science, as well as, joint activities with other UC colleges and external organizations, including government and corporate entities. Special efforts should be directed to assisting new faculty members in establishing productive research programs.
While it is expected that the Associate Dean will possess a distinguished scholarly academic record, including excellence in sponsored research preferably at a major research university similar to UC, the committee will also consider candidates whose leadership abilities and outstanding accomplishments could be translated into innovative leadership of the research activities of the College.
Oversee the research of undergraduate and graduate students within the College.
Promote scholarly and creative excellence.
Strengthen existing research programs and develop new ones across a variety of sectors, including but not limited to, government agencies, foundations and industry.
Maintain and strengthen transdisciplinary research collaborations across the campus.
Represent the CEAS at the level of the research management activities of the UC Vice President for Research.
Serve as the research representative for the College of Engineering and Applied Science at any function.
Meet with the Department Heads of CEAS academic units for flow of information and communication related to research.
Foster a culture of accountability in which research goals are specified, strategies articulated, and results against goals are reported.
Interactive prospectively with the leadership of research programs of:
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC); and
Other UC Colleges (particularly the College of Medicine and the College of Arts and Sciences) to create trans-institutional and transdisciplinary research programs.
Act as a visionary academic leader with a demonstrated ability to turn vision into reality and inspire faculty, staff, students, and the community with ambitious but attainable research objectives and will build a plan to lead CEAS toward those objectives.
Track extramural funding from all sources and create programs that will incrementally increase this funding.
Create and manage an annual budget for the Office of the Associate Dean for Research.
Track and support research progress of Centers and Institutes.
Set goals for the Office of Research annually in accordance with the CEAS strategic plan.
A record as an accomplished scholar or noted contributor to the profession, a Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field and five (5) years of full-time, college-level teaching experience AND a minimum of two (2) years of higher education administrative experience, preferably at a R1 institution. Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a proven record of achieving diversity goals. Ph.D. or terminal degree satisfying the requirements for the rank of tenured full professor in one of CEAS’ academic units is preferred.
