Maryville University is in search of an Assistant Director of Financial Aid. The Financial Aid Department is housed within the Division of Operational Excellence, which includes many operational areas, including Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Veterans Services, Registration, One-Stop Student Service, and Enrollment Services. The Assistant Director of Financial Aid will participate in the daily function of the Division of Operational Excellence with primary focus the administration of Financial Aid in compliance with Federal & State regulations and the University code of ethics regarding student financial aid. This person will be formally responsible for making recommendations regarding policies associated with the job's purpose and essential responsibilities as well as provide timely and accurate guidance to the Solution Squad, students, parents, colleagues, and university partners. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for faculty, staff, and students.
Responsible for accurate, and ongoing packaging of students with financial aid, including Institutional, Federal, State, and outside aid. Ensure compliance of practices.
Provide counseling both in person, via email, within phone queue, to prospective, current & previous students/families regarding financial aid. Respond to all markets (student, family, faculty, staff) interpreting policies, programs and procedures to answer and resolve issues as they occur.
Review errors & make corrections within caseload. Evaluate for Special Conditions & Professional Judgement.
Review and process completed verification files for students within caseload. Follow up with students & parents regarding verification process.
Promptly respond to cases assigned to Financial Aid Office.
Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to reconciliation, private scholarships, and reporting
Provide back up support for other packaging caseload as needed.
Participate in federal, state, and institutional training, staying
current on regulatory changes and requirements.
Attend department, division, and all staff meetings
Bachelor's degree and 3 years of equivalent professional/technical experience
Knowledge of federal, state and private rules, regulations and guidelines governing the administration of internal and external financial aid programs
Familiarity with accounting principles
Basic knowledge of the interrelationship among education information centers (i.e., Registrar's Office, Cashier's Office, Admissions Office)
Knowledge of Datatel UI Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar's screens
Knowledge of computers and computer software (Word and Excel)
Familiarity with federal software (COD, NSLDS, SAIG, IFAP, FAFSA), state software (FAMOUS)
Excellent written and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate technical details to non-technical staff in an understandable way and to actively listen to all parties
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, on multiple projects; ability to multi-task
Ability to be adaptable, intuitive, and flexible
Strong sense of initiative; self-starter
Ability to meet strict deadlines
