The ideal candidate for the position of Database Manager has the following qualifications:
Preferred Bachelorâs Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and/or a related field
Six to eight years of experience in one of the following fields: Information Technology
At least three years of managing database administrators
At least five years of experience supporting database services
Proven ability in building, developing, and managing a diverse high-performing team
Experience with ITIL incident and change management
Experience with diverse database servers: Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL, Sybase, PostgreSQL, Mongo DB, and Cloud platform database solutions
Extensive familiarity with logging, monitoring, and reporting on databases and database servers Ability to troubleshoot issues quickly, accurately, and manage incidents collaboratively
Anticipates customer needs and future and emerging trends and articulates a strategy that meets requirements and motivates others to action
Proven track record in establishing strong customer relationships and delivering consumer-focused solutions within a large IT enterprise
Experience with business case development, project management and service management
Experienced in working with security, compliance, and audit requirements
Ability to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members; demonstrated experience in leading a multi-functional team
Persuasive and effective communicator with ability to communicate to a wide variety of stakeholders; experience presenting technical topics in a business-oriented fashion for non-technical audiences
WORK YOUâLL DO
The Manager of Database leads the design, creation, and maintenance of ITS databases. The Manager of Database works with technical teams to oversee ITS database technologies, and ensures data solutions and database system performance, availability, reliability, security, and usage meet the needs of a best in class, leading edge university. As part of the leadership team, the Manager of Database is expected to model and cultivate the ITS culture, values, and behaviors within their team.

Support the vision for Infrastructure Services. Work with other ITS leaders to develop and manage a holistic strategy for delivering service quality and continuous service improvement.
Work closely with ITS leadership to identify, implement, and support cost-effective, leading solutions for databases
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, and stakeholders to ensure consistent, reliable service is delivered to a range of university stakeholders
Set technology strategy for database management including new database products, database reporting, architectural database designs, prototyping, performance tactics, emerging data storage technologies, and technical assessments
Define standard processes for managing database backup, recovery, architecture, performance tuning, metadata, and optimization by working closely with ITS technical teams to administer a broad range of database technologies
Drive successful day-to-day operations of the database team by managing the service levels and quality of service delivered to customers
Work with director and other ITS leaders and stakeholders to develop and manage a holistic strategy for delivering service quality and continuous service improvement
Advise ITS technical teams to ensure best in class data solutions and database system performance, availability, reliability, readability, security, and usage
