The USC Sol Price School of Public Policy invites applicants for an adjunct faculty position to teach in the area of U.S. education policy. The successful candidate should possess a Ph.D. in education or public policy; a Masterâs degree may be acceptable with appropriate experience. The candidate will be able to teach the graduate course PPDE 669 U.S. Education Policy (âThe role of public policy in education; application of theoretical frameworks to analyze policy design, implementation and impact; key concepts of policy analysis and key issues in education policyâ) in the Fall 2020 semester.Â Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience and excellent teaching evaluations.
Adjunct instructor responsibilities include delivery of course content, scheduling office hours and being accessible to students as appropriate, and grading. Each instructor is expected to provide students with a syllabus outlining the course goals, schedule and all requirements for the course under the direction of the Department Chair.
This course introduces students to the processes that create K-12 and higher education policies, the ways in which schools as organizations interpret and enact these policies, and the theories that can explain them. We view the public policy process through the lens of contemporary issues in the study of educational organizations and policy in both K-12 and higher education in the United States.Â The curriculum provides an overview of policy analysis in education and illustrative research on important educational policy topics with an emphasis on the improvement of urban education.
