The Director of Health Care Administration is responsible for the overall administrative direction and day-to-day operations of the Bureau of Health Services. The Bureau of Health Services (BHS) provides leadership and direction for the delivery of cost-effective and high-quality health care, health education, and preventative care in accordance with professional, community, and constitutionally mandated correctional health care standards. This position is responsible for providing effective and efficient operational leadership for BHS through operational, financial, human resources and strategic duties. This includes the oversight of staff recruitment, development and training, fiscal management, policy development, and program implementation. This position is responsible for establishing and monitoring the Department of Corrections' (DOC) standards of health care and implementing overarching health care strategies for the DOC.
In addition, this position supervises and works closely with the BHS Medical Director and Nursing Director to evaluate the performance of the DOC’s health care delivery system in comparison to standards of health care and community standards. This position supervises health care related staff and administrative support staff. This position is a member of the Division of Adult Institutions’ management team and works closely as a liaison to other departmental leadership and health care staff. This position must have a knowledge of sound health care practices, overall health care administration, and other skills essential to operating health care services throughout the DOC.
