Office of Research Information Services (ORIS), a division of the Office of Research, coordinates, develops, and supports electronic research administration for faculty and staff at the University of Washington. Goals include:
Improve service to Principal Investigators (PIs) and research and administrative staff, enhance their ability to obtain funding, reduce their workload, and streamline the processing of their proposals.
Provide authorized individuals with convenient access to timely information on the status of proposals and awards.
Increase the efficiency of the research community to meet growing workload and compliance demands with limited resources.

The University of Washington’s Office of Research Information Services has an outstanding opportunity for a full time Data Integration Architect.
The Data Integration Architect is responsible for all aspects of data architecture strategy, design, and development. The incumbent will provide senior-level data design, development, and implementation, with an emphasis on data modeling and engineering for widespread software integration capabilities. The immediate need will be creating a data model /architecture strategy that supports the integration of research administration and compliance systems with Workday financials. Along with the specific need to support Workday integrations, the solutions developed must be long-standing and support a multitude of existing and future administrative systems integrations.
In support of the Office of Research's mission, this position will provide technical leadership in the data strategy and architecting the integration of electronic research information systems with other UW enterprise systems.
Data Integration Architecture
Turn business goals and strategies into conceptual and logical data models by analyzing information requirements.
Perform systems analysis to document current state data models and flows, to inform future state designs for an integration platform.
Develop and maintain new data models and data flows that represent essential data consumed and produced for various systems in the research domain.
Responsible for the accurate documentation for data architectural designs that are disseminated and understood by staff with varying levels of technical aptitude.
Work extensively with the workday financials planning and implementation project and align use of data modeling to support a seamless integration between ORIS systems and the Workday system.
Provide data-centric thinking for the organization and advocate best practices around data.
Apply knowledge of technology options, technology platforms, design techniques and approaches across the data engineering ecosystem to build systems that meet business needs in the research domain.
Design data access and integration services for various research administration systems.
Develop data modeling and design standards, and review data design quality for ORIS developed applications.
Participate in UW technology integration initiatives that involve ORIS supported systems (i.e. UW Finance Transformation Initiative).
Build strong relationships, working with diverse technical and business partner groups, both internal and external to the University of Washington.
Effectively communicate and collaborate technical information with a wide range of people with varying levels of technical expertise.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years' experience with data architecture strategy, design, and development.
Experience with data management activities and concepts including an understanding of best practices for enterprise data modeling and management.
Experience designing complex integrations with a focus on data modeling and data engineering.
Ability to lead the implementation of data-centric application development projects from beginning to end.
Experience in data governance capabilities, policy, process, and procedures.
Excellent time and priority management ability.
Excellent problem-solving/analytical abilities.
Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Experience working in a Scrum-Agile environment.
Exposure to the Workday suite of applications/modules.
Experience with Workday data model, security, integrations and data load capabilities.
Experience using Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) successfully to deliver on the unit and organizational goals.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position contributes to a collaborative teamwork environment. Collaboration among the Software Developers, QA team members, Customer Experience, and other team members is done in a shared space working environment, through ad hoc meetings focused on problem-solving, and the use of synchronous and asynchronous communication tools. Non-standard working hours can be necessary.
