STI/SPFA (Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association) is seeking its next dynamic leader to serve and promote the interests of its members in the steel fabrication industry. Qualified candidates will be innovative and mission driven, bringing strong communication skills and the ability to build and establish strong business and industry partnerships.
Reporting to and serving as Secretary of the Board of Directors, the EVP manages all official records and works closely with its Counsel to abide by the association by-laws. The EVP serves as STI/SPFA’s staff leader, managing the office in Lake Zurich, IL. External to the office, the Executive Vice-President will be the “face” of the STI/SPFA, representing the industry with regulators and other authorities, specifying engineers, buyers of steel fabricated products, installers, operators, and inspectors.
Established in 1916, with a $2.5 million annual budget, STI/SPFA serves more than 180 members who are involved with steel tanks, pipe, and pressure vessels in the fuels/energy, water, and chemical industries. STI/SPFA is a progressive, non-for-profit association providing education and certification, performing research and development, creating standards and recommended practices, assuring high quality workmanship, and marketing and promoting steel fabricated products.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Vice-President is responsible for managing the strategic plan, and keeping the industry focused on its vision and mission statements. The EVP is responsible for growing the membership, obtaining member engagement, managing conferences, and developing and operating the association within budget, while assuring investments provide necessary reserves. Other duties include:
Governance of STI/SPFA and management of day-to-day operations
Representation of the industry with professional groups and industry partners, in public forums, trade shows, conferences, and other associations
Advocacy, raising the visibility of the industry and promulgating a positive image
Conference management, providing valuable networking opportunities for members
General administration of all STI/SPFA programs, services, and activities
Oversee fuel tank fabrication technology licensing program
Provide industry awareness serving as the industry’s ears and eyes, monitoring trends, challenges, and opportunities
Inform and assist members in dealing with emerging issues in a proactive way
Five to ten years of executive level management and association experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with technical background
Thinks strategically in order to attain the “big picture,” but understands when “all hands on deck” are needed
Operates with high integrity, insightful, nimble, and proactive
Must be well-organized, can establish priorities, yet be able to pay attention to details
Strong written and public speaking skills
Ability to set priorities, delegate responsibilities, and mentor and develop staff
Work with a tight-knit team, and be both a part of the team and a leader of the team
Manages adversity, while maintaining a good sense of humor
STI/SPFA is a trade association representing fabricators of steel construction products and their suppliers. Member companies produce steel storage tanks, field erected water and industrial storage tanks, pressure vessels and heat exchangers, and pipe and pipelines. Their customers are from the petrochemical, power generation, chemical, fuels, and water industries.
