The Academic Dean provides visionary academic leadership and direction for portions of academic affairs of Hennepin Technical College, including all the college sites in the area of curriculum, business and technology, hiring, and training of new staff. Campus administrative coverage for day, evening, and weekends is a basic component with the ability to properly handle emergencies and customer concerns. This person will work internally with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, deans, support staff, career and technical education faculty, and department team leaders (department chairs). They will works directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and fully support the college's commitment to equity and inclusion.
CHARACTERISTICS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the development and or revision of curricula and implement instructional programs
Develop course schedules and assignments collaboratively with faculty for submission to college administration
Identifies and eliminates scheduling barriers for our students
Hires, supervises, and evaluates personnel
Determine appropriate credentials for faculty and ensure credentialing and licensure processes are met and completed by all faculty
Completes faculty evaluations
Prepares and maintains program and department budgets
Ensures management of labs, equipment, and other department resources
Promotes flexible delivery times and methods such as weekend college, courses via the Internet, or courses using distance learning
Facilitates the effective implementation of College policies, procedures, and guidelines
Creates an environment for successful development and working relationships of teams
Resolves issues and problems that may arise with faculty, staff, and students
Facilitates the effective implementation of the program advancement process (including program and student learning assessment) and assists in ongoing college accreditation and certification efforts
Demonstrates a strong and clear commitment to diversity among both faculty, staff and students consistent with the HTC Diversity Plan
Develops annual individual and department goals
Ensures appropriate professional development for faculty and staff
Promotes the values of shared governance and participative management
Leads through engagement in Academic Affairs and Standards Council, MSCF Shared Governance Council, Professional Development, and Assessment
Implements strategic initiatives to grow enrollment at our Eden Prairie Campus
Other College duties as assigned
Master's degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution
Minimum of three years of related experience in higher education
Demonstrated the understanding of the mission of the technical colleges
Evidence of a strong and clear commitment to diversity among both students and staff
Demonstrated success in a supervisory or management role
Excellent presentation skills and interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Demonstrated success in partnership development
Demonstrated success in promoting the values of shared governance and participative management
Experience in developing and administering budgets
Experience in regional and programmatic accreditation
Experience with increasing college enrollment, student persistence, and student completion rates
Experience with supervision of academic units or leading faculty
Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
Experience working with career and technical education programs
Five years' experience in supervision and administration, preferably in a higher education institution with collective bargaining units.
Experience in planning and participating in joint projects with business or educational organizations, including K12 districts, four-year universities, and industry
Experience with distance learning and the use of technology in the classroom
