The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote population health, protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' equitable access to health services and information.
Promotes and supports population health by providing leadership, management, and nursing expertise. Oversees the day to day operations of a public health clinic services unit, located within a designated district office. Leads and directs a team of public health nurses and paraprofessional staff in providing services that include but are not limited to: pregnancy testing, immunizations, HIV/AIDS services, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, tuberculosis testing and treatment, and refugee assessments. Manages the overall function, efficiency and effectiveness of a district office, with human capital resources and budget responsibilities including capital equipment, clinic facilities management, and coordination of staffing schedules. Uses quality improvement and performance management processes and/or techniques to improve clinical services for the site and the program. Researches, collects and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data to make informed decisions, makes recommendations and implements process improvement changes. Collaborates and consults within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams in order to achieve desirable outcomes for families and communities. Participates in programs to enhance community health services and education. Promotes individual and population health by assuring the quality and accessibility of health services, preventing the spread of disease, promoting and encouraging health behaviors, and responding to disasters and assisting communities in recovery.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus five years of post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education, including three years in a public health/community health setting. Qualifying experience may include experience in ambulatory care settings such as outpatient clinics that incorporate community outreach/education as part of services or specialty settings that incorporate teaching, community outreach, resource referrals, etc. as part of a health care continuum; plus at least one year of supervisory experience.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of current license or a multi state licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background investigation, a Child Protective Services, sanction screenings, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Preferred candidate will have a masters' degree in public health, public administration, nursing, or a related degree.
Three years of progressive leadership experience in a high-volume public health, community health clinic supporting population health in a culturally diverse setting.
At least three years of demonstrated experience working on multidisciplinary and/or multi-agency team(s).
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public, community organizations, and other staff when explaining public health issues and providing public health services.
Strong problem solving, critical thinking skills, and a high level of professionalism is required when dealing with peers, clients and individuals within the community.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, high attention to detail, and strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external partners.
Preferred candidates will have at least two years of direct supervisory experience overseeing, monitoring, and directing the work of others.

Must have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
